Sermon Three
by James S. White
Noah’s Time and Ours
Text: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. Matt.24:36, 37
The prophetic discourse of Matt.24 and 25 was given by our Lord in answer to the inquiry of his disciples, “When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Chap.24:3.
Here are two questions; one relating to the destruction of Jerusalem; the other to the second coming of Christ. The text relates to the latter. We solemnly believe that the day and hour, and even the year, of the second advent are purposely hidden. Some of the prophetic periods reach to the time of the end, while others extend still further down very near the end itself, to an event of which we shall speak hereafter, yet none of them reach to the coming of the Son of Man. The prophecies clearly point to the period of the second advent, but do not give the definite time of that event.

The Scripture and your diet

Deuteronomy 8:7-9

The Sinner’s Great Need
The Sinner’s Great Need of Salvation
Salvation is saving man from the consequences of sin, especially deliverance from sin and eternal death. Christ, through His death on the cross and His heavenly intercession in the Sanctuary above, and His life of victory over sin, we have power over all sins. Salvation is the need of every human heart, “for all have sinned, come short of the glory of God.” Roman 3:23.
By whom or through whom is salvation possible?
“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye cruHoly Biblecified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:10, 12. Also see Matthew 1:21. It is impossible of ourselves to escape from the pit of sin in which we find ourselves in. Our hearts are evil and we cannot change them.
What is humanity’s condition?
- We are born in sin. Psalm 51:5; 5:3; Isaiah 48:8.
- Our understanding is darkened. Ephesians 4:8.
- Our hearts are full of evil. Jeremiah 17:9.
- We are spiritually dead. Ephesians 2:1.
